Facing staggering debt, hundreds of Alberta post-secondary students are logging on to a website connecting them with “sugar daddies” who can provide them with a monthly allowance and gifts in exchange for negotiated relationships. As for what universities housed the most sugar babies in 2017, Seeking Arrangement says the University of Ottawa topped the list with 703 site members enrolled in programs at the school. The University of Alberta ranked second, Ryerson University ranked third, the University of Toronto ranked fourth and University of Western Ontario came in at number five."Three in four Canadian graduates under the age of 40 say they have regrets about taking student loans, and the average financial aid debt amounts to $22,084 on average per student," Seeking Arrangement says. But student advocates warn such arrangements can be fraught with peril, exposing them to potential exploitation or abuse with few avenues to disentangle themselves from a bad situation.
Matchmaking website Seeking Arrangement this week released its rankings of Canadian universities that have had students sign up in search of financial aid.
Data was not available for Alberta’s other post-secondary institutions.
